Defective dashboard clock? 850 1996

Hello,

I have 3 Volvo wagons. Two '96 850s and a '99XC. They all have the identical "time/temperature" display. Recently, the time/temperature display on the '99 XC has been acting up. I place this query here because of the similarity between the models, and hope someone else has had a similar experience.

The '99 XC has nearly 60K on the odemeter. Recently, and without a set pattern, the clock portion of the display, re-sets itself to "12:00". The temperature setting remains unchanged. After driving the car, the time advances accordingly, i.e. "12:01, etc.". The clock doesn't automatically re-set itself when I start the car in the morning. I can happen in the middle of the day as I'm driving around.

My question(s) is: Is this a problem that requires the replacement of the clock unit? Or is this a programming or "software" problem?

If anyone else has had this problem, I would like to know how you dealt with it. Thanks in advance to all who respond.

Hugh
