I'm amazed at how long the muffler system is lasting on my 850. It's a 97 GLT, made in September of 96. Volvo's body and muffler system warranty, as I understand, is good for eight years. On my 83 240 I was replacing the back Midas/Meinike muffler every eleven months. Of course it was a cheap piece of crap, designed to wear out asap even though you signed that forever and ever liftetime guarantee to replace the muffler free (labor not included, which is how they make their money). But I've talked to many Volvo parts people about how many 850 mufflers they are selling, and all say only for cars that were damaged. I do preventive maintenance on my 850 and am wondering whether I should score myself a new muffler and tailpipe system sometime in the near future. I have a friend with a 96 850 turbo with 150K on it and still no muffler problem. Mine only as 61K. So how long will they last? Dick
