Hose to air filter housing 850 1996

On the rear face of the top portion of the air filter housing there are two small hoses. On my 2.0L 20V 850 the top thin black hose is not connected to anything and I cannot see where it should go. There is enough hose to curl round to under the distributor cap. but nowhere obvious to plug it in.
Can anyone please tell me where it should go as Volvo's are as rare as hen teeth here and I don't know another owner to go and ask /look.
