alternative to bevel gear V70-XC70 1998

I believe the bevel gear in my 98 v70r is going out. I get a noisy rattle under the driver side floor pan. It sounds like a rock rattling inside a wheel hub. I've alawys had same size tires and tried to maintain even pressure. one time a front tire was low and maybe this caused the gear to wear out. My question is, if I remove the drive line and just run as a fwd, will this cause any problems to the drive train. Thanks for any comments
