I just looked at and drove a 1998 BMW 740IL with documented dealer service in excellent condition at a bargain price. I have owned only Volvos since 1982 and currenty own a 1991 940 turbo and 1986 740 that are still running strong and which I maintain very well (do most of my own work on them).
I am looking for another car and was considering a newer Volvo (1998 - 2001) with apprehension about reliablility and quality because of (1) the design changes to front wheel drive and (2) the Ford association.
Are my concerns unfounded? If not, which model should I be looking at. After driving the BMW I'm am torn (It is not owned by a U.S. company, had amazing performance and handling, and is solidly built).
I'd like to hear some feedback.
Thanks to all,
Gary
