Leather steering wheel V70-XC70

My 2000 V70 steering wheel leather is deteriorating. Have kept a sun shield in the car when parked, but the wheel leather is disintegrating for some reason. What is the best fix? I looked at wheelskins online, I am not familiar with what would look best, the interior is taupe leather. Anybody have suggestions?
