First off I wanna thank those who helped me on my last post,
Now.. I have a bit more info on what may be causing my problem. I'll start with my new observations.
1. Car idles perfectly at 900, all the time.
2. When I apply throttle in neutral and hold it completely steady, I get this sorta thing:
RPM rises from 900 to 2500 relatively quick, halts for approximately 0.6 seconds, then proceeds 200RMPs higher, halts for another .6, continues 200RPMS higher. Levels out at about 3000 (this is about where it should have gone right away)
After about 2 seconds of holding at about 3000, it drops down 200 or so for a second, rises back up 90% of what dropped for another second, drops another 200.. etc
This leads it to eventually falling all the way back down to about 1500. (keeping in mind I have enough gas for 3000 easy.
3. I have checked all the vacuum hoses now and replaced a few elbows. As of now, I cannot seem to find anymore leaks (though beneath the batters there are some connections and one doesnt seem to be used, but I plugged it with my finger and it didnt change anything, nor does it seem to be sucking.
4. Mileage isnt bad, but definatly not the best. The car cooling fan comes on at the right times, and temp stays steady at 1/2 when the car is warm.
5. Being warm or cold doesnt change the condition.
Thats about it. I went to get the oil changed to synthetic yesterday and when I was there I asked them for mobil 1. They told me my car called for 10W40 and that mobil 1 only comes in 10w50. I said ok, what do you recommend, and he said to use 10w50 (which actually doesnt exist). But since I am new to the synthetic game, I hadnt a clue.
I now find out that they put in 15w50, is this too thick? Im in Victoria BC, Canada. Coldest it gets is -5, hottest is mid 30's (Celsius).
Air filter is clean. Cant see (hear) and air leaks. Front 02 hasnt set a code today (when I bought the car a few days ago, it was throwing a "slow to respond" code). I havnt cleaned the throttle body, but its the next on my list. Checked the plugs today, and they looked fine as well. When I clear the codes, I hear a whirling/buzzing sound comming from the fuel rail for about 3 seconds. Someone else mentioned this on the forums, but never got a reply.
I love this car already, but I am quickly becomming VERY frustrated with this damn situation!!!! Going to pass on the highway and having your rpms fluctuate like hell isnt very fun :(
