The Michellin Rainforce rubber I was running on my S70 ('98 5spd 2.4L natural asp.) wore out, and I decided to avoid the French this time around. Political. On the advice of TireRack reviews and my local tire guy, I bought a set of Goodyear Assurance TripleTred tires. These have a crazy tread pattern (or would that be a "tred" pattern?) which is claimed to give good performance on dry, wet and snow/ice.
So far, I am very happy. The Goodyears ride softer than the Michellins, which means a quieter ride on nasty (Michigan) roads and at higher speeds. Grip seems good, and wet grip is very good. I have not had a chance try these on snow yet.
The TripleTreds cost me $112/tire "out the door" at Belle Tire. Not cheap, but cheaper than replacement Michellins. The Goodyears come with an 80000 mile tread-life (er, tred-life) warranty, and free roadside assistance if you get a flat. Also a 30 day satisfaction guarantee, hence the "assurance" name.
