'94 850 Wagon 198,000 miles. Thought I had bad gas after driving 5 miles on fill up. Had about 3 gallons left in tank. Car lost rpms at 40 mph, I slid into nuetral and tried to restart. Coasted to a parking lot. Car would start and have smooth rpms and then stall after a few seconds. After several attempts the car may run for an extended time, up to 30 minutes. After car stalls, the same routine. Start, have rpms and then stall. I replaced all tune-up items, plugs, caps rotor, air filter. I checked fuel pressure on fuel rail and have 40 to 45 lbs. However, after it stalls there is no fuel pressure or very little. I will replace the fuel filter tomorrow. My fuel pump cycles as it should when the key is turned to the on position. You can hear it and it charges the fuel rail to the pressure mentioned earlier. I am having trouble thinking it is the fuel pump or relay, but see a lot of incidence on the forum. I checked for loose vacuum hoses, but will check again for cracked lines. The old plugs were somewhat sooty with carbon, but this might have been expected given the number of starts and stops. Could it be the fuel pressure regulator? What in the system could tell the system to kill the fuel? I have an EGR CEL code 241 that I have had forever. I will clean the EGR as well while I'm down. I have a Haynes manual, but it has no fuel/ignition/ecu diagrams.
By the way...love the forum. I have fixed so many things on my car.
Thanks in advance.
