960 suspension and SRS light problem

First of all, sorry for cross posting. I am just learning to use this forum.

Hi,

I just bought an used 1993 Volvo 960 with 146K miles on it. I bought it for $1700. But I have already spent close to $300 for brakes (F/R rotors and pads) and wiper. The car was pulling to the right and hence I took it to a mechanic thinking its an alignment problem. But he said its not alignment but the tires. They are worn out. Also, the struts are rusted because of which tires get worn out quicker. He recommends changing the struts and tires.

Now, I really cannot afford to spend tons on this. And since I used to work on my Toyota Tercel before, I have decided to do it on my own. My question is, what all needs to be changed in my car ? Whatever is there are the original ones since I have all the service records for the car. So please advice me on what all needs to be changed and the approximate cost for the parts. The car does run rough over bad roads and I can feel it. Many thanks.

One more problem is the SRS light. It comes on sometimes during the startup and the vehicle gets locked. But then, when I try it again, it goes off and I can drive. I am assuming there is some loose contact somewhere. Any help will be appreciated. Hope to hear from you all. --suji
