Davis Car Show and Swap Meet – Sunday June 5
Thunderhill Track Day – Monday June 6
DAVIS CAR SHOW AND SWAP MEET
This will be the largest Volvo event on the West Coast this year. There were nearly 200 cars at last year’s event. The event is held in the Davis Central Park Pavilion, a very pleasant place with a park, shade, playground and easy walking distance to restaurants and shops in downtown Davis. Davis is a small college town just west of Sacramento on I-80. Take the Richards Blvd. Exit and go north toward downtown. Central Park is at 3rd and C street. The meet will get going at 9:00 AM and go until mid afternoon. Admission is $10 per car, includes raffle tickets, dash plaque, prancing moose sticker and more.
There will be food, raffles with very nice prizes, large swap meet, and a car show with people’s choice balloting and prizes awarded in the following categories:
BEST 544/444/PV
BEST 1800
BEST 120/140/160

TRACK DAY AT THUNDERHILL RACEWAY.
The track day this year is pretty much sold out. If you wish to participate in the track day, please contact me to get on the waiting list. We generally have some last minute openings and perhaps we can squeeze you in. If you would like to go and watch, there is no gate fee, and we can always use some help running the event.
Thunderhill is located near the town of Willows, about 70 miles north of Sacramento on Highway 5. The track is open at 7:00 AM. Participants need to be there before 7:30 to get their cars inspected. Drivers meeting will begin at 8:30, and we will be on the track by 9.
We will run the 9 turn, 1.7 mile road course. The track has some very technical corners and some very exciting elevation changes. It is an excellent opportunity to drive your car fast on a safe, closed course. There is no racing. Instructors are available for first timers, and we place cars/drivers in groups that best match their experience and car potential. Passing is allowed only on the main straightaway.
Your car does not need to be modified or race prepared. You’ll need typical highway safety equipment and a helmet. Your car does need to pass a technical inspection, which is performed at the track. You’ll get at least 2 hours of track time, broken into 30 minute intervals over the day, along with some “debrief” sessions with Q&A, feedback, etc. from experienced race drivers. Participation is limited to 50 cars total divided into three run groups
Cost is $170 per driver for Volvo Club of America members, $200 for non members. Track fee includes lunch. VCOA membership is $30 per year and includes a subscription to Rolling, the best Volvo enthusiasts magazine in the world. Contact me at lee@vcoa.org for more information or to sign up.
