ODD 850 questions (looking for a good FWD powertrain to transplant) 850

First off, I'm a RWD guy, so I know very little on the 850.

I'm in need of a FWD drive train. My *caugh* Relault powered (or should I say anchored) Winnebego LeSharo motorhome has a Peugot (however it's spelled) 2.2 engine that's really nothing but trouble (actually, 1 of the 2.2 powered motorhomes is fairly reliable now that I've converted it to LH 2.2 from my Volvo collection and replaced the trans controller with a selector switch.... Making it a clutchless manual I suppose).

Anyway, I have one of these critters, and there are 4 more in the family.
I've converted one to Caravan 3.3 and trans, works well, but I'm a Volvo guy.
Mine's a diesel and it's dead. Even if I wanted to save the engine, it would be cheaper to buy a brand new motorhome. I really want to lose the Renault junk all together though.

What years would be better all around? Any transmission / year concerns?
If you were going to do something simular, would you consider the 850?

Right now, I'm most interested in putting a Volvo heartbeat in it, but I have a good Ford Tempo (ATX) donar if it comes to that (been done to many of these beasts, with much luck).

I really hate to go to a gasoline setup, but if that's my best option, biodiesel will no longer power the beast.

I'd really like to stick with Volvo and if it works well on mine, 3 more will get the same.

Thanks all
