Not a good week for the vehicle (see other post if curious). Last week was heading up the Interstate toward a very poorly marked work zone. The crews had removed the top 12-18 inches of pavement across all four lanes in a strip about 20 feet wide, then had "ramped " the edges of the cut at 45 degrees or less; no active work at the time (the removal had been during the night, then the crew went home, to come back after dark the next evening), so no mandatory "slow down" indicators. I had taken my foot off the throttle a considerable distance before the cut and was down to about 45 MPH, but an &*%#!hole in a humongous SUV was eating my rear bumper so I couldn't brake when I saw what was ahead. Hit the edges of the cut hard enough to pop the SC 901 approx 1/4" out of the dash and discorporate the hard-wired phone assembly.
Car steers straight, and gives no indications of having broken any tread layers in the tires, but now there are audible creaks at low speed, which do not appear to be dash creaks. No perception of difference in ride or suspension reaction to the roadway on normal driving.
Questions: What can I check myself, what should I have the indy mech look for, and / or what should I plan to have to take to the dealer (over 100 miles away)?
What further symptoms or conditions should I look for/ test for?
Thanks, all.
