Theft alarm fading 850 1996

My theft alarm use to function 'normally' - that is when i opened the doors prematurely it use to ring, and ring LOUD.

Now, it seems the volume of this alarm has significantly reduced - almost like the battery is dying (sound does not carry more than 3-4 meters where as before the whole neighborhood knew about it). The car operates normally (KOW) otherwise.

Any suggestions on what might be wrong or what to check for?
