850 Roof Trim problem: Solution? 850 1994

The black coating on the roof trim strips eventually deteriorates and looks like chipped finger nail polish. Today I masked both sides of the strip and took a razor blade scraper and got the black stuff off followed by scraping the yellow undercoat. Next I used some 3 M Green stuff to remove the final mess and smooth out the metal. The finished product produces a brushed aluminum finish which looks good. Not sure if it will last or if anyone has more suggestions. I do know these strips are expensive.
