Buying a used V70 V70-XC70

I have a foreboding that my 89 245 wagon will soon meet a repair bill so high I can't justify it, and will be forced to sell for cheap. So I'm thinking I'll go out on a high and buy a 98-99-00 V70, probably not a T5 and definitely not AWD. What should I be looking out for? Are some years better than others? And what do former 240 owners think about their V70s? On a practical level, that is, not emotional- I'm already suffering seperation anxiety.
