I was a bit disturbed a few years back when I purchased my used 1998 XC wagon from a Volvo dealer along with a Volvo extended waranty. About a year later, the ABS lights started coming on, and the dealer diagnosed it as a bad ABS unit. He also informed me that the problem WAS NOT covered by the extended waranty I had purchased. Well I drove it for a while with the problem, not wanting to shell out the thousand plus they estimated to fix it. I want to say how pleased I was when I found information from Victor Rocha (http://home.earthlink.net/~vicrocha/) and his service to repair ABS units. The repair was easy, turn around time was excellent, and the price was a fraction of what the dealer wanted.
This is clearly a Volvo defect. The same thing happened on my S80, but since I owned it under a new car purchase waranty, it was relaced by the dealer. I vote for a class action against Volvo to get them to recall and repair these units.
