I believe my volvo xc needs a new transmission (105K). I have located one (recycled) fairly local and for around $950. My concern is that it is from a 98 and not a 2000. I looked at the Vadis information and the bevel gear is larger for the 2000 units. Does anyone know if these transmissions are directly interchangeable or will there be program conflicts?

Also, this transmission failure is somewhat strange. It was working fine then it failed when my wife was driving. Allegedly she was driving in slippery conditions and she either downshipted to "1" or pressed the traction control button. In any case, after she did, the shift arrow light started blinking and the transmission intermittantly fails to shift. It does not engage when shifted out of park or neutral, the shifts are hard and after a period of driving it will fail to shift altogether. I have tried flushing the fluid and cleaning the PNP switch (I would have put in a new switch but I really didn't see much wrong with the old and I felt it wiser to put the $125 or so towards a new transmission once things are diagnosed). The lights are still on along with a check engine. I have not read the codes yet and am in the process of getting a scanner from OBD-2.

I would certainly appreciate any input from any of you.

Incidently, I had to replace the throttle body at 81K. Here the emissions equipment is required to be warranteed for 80K. Volvo said if I couldn't afford to maintain the car I shouldn't have bought it.
