anyone ever heard of a melted clutch release bearing?

i have the (possible) chance to pick up a intersting t5, but in the maintenance records it shows a majour gerabox out service (including new clutch and rear seal and new gearbox oil) due to the clutch release bearing having melted (also a new clutch slave cylinder) anyone got any opinions on (a) likely causes and (b) thoughts as to long terms issues?
