Hello All,
I have a '96 850 GLT Wagon with 220,000 miles on it. This car has a black color plastic steering wheel. Several months ago, I noticed the upper half of the steering wheel, closest to the dashboard, and exposed to the most sun light had become dried, and faded in color in comparison to the bottom half. The actual surface of the steering wheel was rougher to the touch, than the bottom half.
This condition is obviously caused by the exposure to the sun. I'm surprised, because I have applied Armorall to the dashboard and the steering wheel from time to time. Can anyone recommend a product that I can apply to the black steering wheel, to restore the color? I have seen plastic "dyes" for sale in iPd, but I'm concerned the dye could rub off on my hands. Plus, will the "dye" have a uniform appearance, or will I wind up with a "two-tone" steering wheel. I have spoken with iPd representatives, and they could not vouch this product would work with a steering wheel, because of the constant hand contact. Thanks to all who respond.
Hugh
