I have a '96 855T, and I've noticed that under the conditions where the turbo will supply full boost, there was only a millimeter or so remaining on the boost gauge. Most things I've read made me believe that this was on the high side, so I did some testing. I found that the wastegate's base pressure was 5 psi, and at full boost it was almost 13 psi. This is NOT an "R" model. It's a regular Turbo, but these results sound unusual. The original owner was a suburban housewife, and in no way an enthusiast... she just liked Volvos, could afford one, and got every option except fog lights and a CD changer. She no longer had the original bill of sale, and vaguely remembered having "some sort problem and Volvo had to put in a new computer" but I've noticed that this car also has a rear sway bar, and it runs extremely well. With new Falken V rated tires, I recently took it out fer a wee bit of a blast, and backed off even though it was still pulling strong at 130 mph. Of course, the location and conditions were appropriate for such a test. Is this normal performance for one of these things?
