I've got 200,000 miles on a 1996 854 GLT and the exhaust just started to rattle. I poked my head under the driver's side of the middle of the car and found a metal plate (heat shield) was floating around on top of the muffler. The exhaust system as a whole appears to be solid and in good shape. I assume the metal plate used to be spot welded to the muffler top but don't know as I can't see between the floor and the muffler. It appears that this metal plate is big enough that it will be trapped up there so there isn't a concern of it falling out of the road but I'd like to find an economical way to fix it so it performs its function and doesn't drive me nuts with the rattling around.
Does anyone have a parts diagram that would show the exhaust system parts? Is there an online parts microfiche or PDFs somewhere?
Thanks,
Fred
