Disco fogger out of the A/C vents......................... 850 1995

Coming home from vacation and all was well until I got caught up in a long back-up for about a half hour or so where the car was barely moving. The A/C started acting up and what seemed like a dance floor fogger from my younger days started to appear out of the front two vents. Any idea what this means?
The air coming out stopped being cold and I shut her down for awhile. Then after a half hour I tried it again and cold air came out.
Should I be looking at picking up one of those re-fill kits for $34.95?
