gas door lock woes 850 1994

The lock on my gas door(not the gas cap) doesn't always release on my '94 turbo
wagon, which requires me to pull the release loop by the right rear tail lights.
My mechanic says the solenoid that controls that lock needs to be replaced-cost$200. The car has the factory remote locking system installed. Does
anyone know how to fix this? Is the solenoid easily accesible? Thank you for
your suggestions.
