I have a 3 week old S80, 2005, 2.5T. I present to you two distinct odd sounds that I can't figure out. I'll ask the dealer when I take it in, but (hopefully) that won't be for a while. Let's see if any of you have heard these:
Sound #1:
Get in car and close door. Do not put key in ignition. There is a whir, very quiet, but present. I've isolated it to the climate control dash panel. If I place my finger over the little air vent grill in said dash panel, the pitch of the whir increases, so I'm obviously restricting intake air flow. Perhaps this is how the system monitors cabin air temp. OK, but why is it running when the car is not? Does this run 24/7?
Sound #2:
This one I just noticed a few days ago. Motor running, car in any gear, including P/N. A/C engaged not engaged, it doesn't matter. I hear a faint sound that I will describe like that of an air wrench removing lug nuts. Two long tones, followed by two short tones. Same pattern over and over. Maybe a pump of some sort? Can only hear it in the cabin, driver's side, and only when stopped or moving at very slow pace.
This car is definitely not like any other Volvo I've had to date. I'm not sure if that's a good or bad thing. But different.
