transmission problem S80 1999

That is one of the first signs of a failed transmission. Unless the car thinks it is in N. Try pushing up slightly with the selector, towards P, to make sure it has selected R.
Does the tranny slip in D?
What color is the tranny fluid? Is it full of fluid?
