Abe,
I'm a little confused. I was understanding the "goo effect" (aka "lawnmower syndrome") was from carbon deposits partially liquifying and gumming up the valve stems within the guides. Effectively, the oil and carbon-deposits solution was not viscous enough to allow the valve to move freely within the guides.
Maybe it's my lack of understanding of how hydraulic tappets work. Care to elaborate?
