Hi, all. I am in the middle of searching for another used Volvo wagon to replace the '93 940 that was totaled a few weeks ago. I am seriously considering FWD wagons and see many '99 V70's out there. I am aware that '99 was the first year of the ETM on these cars and I am also aware that it was a very poorly designed ETM that was guaranteed to fail and cost $1,000 to replace and replacement was no different. A wear and tear item that costs $1K is not acceptable to me, so I am wondering what if anything has happened with this issue? I read a bunch of stuff about it and know that Volvo issued a recall in 2006 for it, but what does the recall do? Replace the ETM with the same thing or did they redesign it? Is there an aftermarket part that is superior? Is there an inexpensive service by some independent person to fix this (like the ABS module)? Should I just exclude '99-'02 cars from my search? Seems there are lots of them out there...
Thanks!
