Take a piece of wire and connect power directly to the fixture - either through its connector, or by cutting the wire going to it. Even new bulbs can be bad.
If the light goes not work, you have your mission.
If not - ask - What just happened before the problem? Did you bottom the car or run over something? Was something done to the car?
The rear hatch takes a beating compared to the rest of the wiring to it. This is where I would look.
Do the license plate lights work?
