I've been able to totally avoid any swirls, and have only picked a few surface scratches along the sides. And, I use a car wash also, although this is a quality wash, which takes great care not to damage the paint.
I use an orbital polisher about 4 times a year, and variously use either 1 step Meguiars Cleaner Wax, or 2 step solutions like Meguiars #9 swirl remover followed by Meguiars Medallion, 3Ms machine polish followed by Griot's Garage best of show wax. Also, once a year, I'll use paint cleaning clay. By rotating this regime, I keep the car always clean and shiny, and horizintal surface scratches are non existant. The only reason the sides have any, which of course are much harder to detect is that I dont spend nearly so much time on them. I have found my auto car wash to put NO swirls on the surface.
The color BTW, is callec Pewter Silver, which is a good color to keep looking good.
