I wouldn't say it's a complete deal breaker, mainly because these AW transmissions seem to be very robust. If the transmission is still shifting properly and you feel ABSOLUTELY NO slipping then there is probably no permanent damage to the tranny. I change my fluid at the first sight of hard shifts under normal acceleration, or if the tranny clunks into gear. After the flush the car shifts nice and smooth again. As for other visual (or not so visual) indications, I'm not aware of any, but others may know of some.
Good luck and let us know what you decide to do.
