Having those choices, I would stay away from the 1998. The 1999, especially late version, seems to be very good. That is what we bought last year. Perhaps the 96 or 97 may have some fewer of the annoying little items fail, but the ride is better on the 99. Unless you really need the AWD, I would stay away from those in either 98 or 99.
