can't seem to clear codes from 95 850 850 1995

I usually hold the button a little longer than 5 secs. Try 10 seconds but the procedure is correct. But you have to read all the codes for that socket.
How many error codes are you getting???

U can also clear the codes by disconnecting the battery for a couple of hours. The computer resets everything. Make sure you have your code for the radio
