Long-time Brickboarder. Selling my 1989 Volvo 780. Has the 4 cylinder turbo. White with tan interior. Overall in decent condition for its age. Will need some interior work, but it is in driveable condition. Odometer stopped before I bought it, mileage is in excess of 200k.
To my knowledge, it is mostly a southern car. It spent the majority of its life in eastern North Carolina and South Carolina. A previous owner did extensive work, including head gasket although the person I bought it from had more history and said that wasn't the problem. He repaired a rough running engine with a new electrical connection for the injectors. Body has been repainted, previous owner sealed moon roof shut, and the caulk damaged the paint. I have the moon roof working again. Body is in overall good condition. Has the hydra wheels. There is some rust forming at the trunk seal at the base of the window. Engine developed a slight bottom end noise, and I don't have the space or time to deal with it. It's not knocking yet but noticeable. When I changed the oil, there was fine metal dust on the drain plug magnet. I have put less than 1,000 miles on the car since I bought it, so the problem has been there, I just didn't notice it when I bought it. I have always wanted one and am very disappointed. I basically would like to get my money out of it if possible. Transmission shifts good, car can be driven and tested. I have done some updating to it, including new IPD brake hoses, new calipers and pads, new tires, new exhaust, and some other refreshments. FYI, I ran Amsoil engine flush through the motor and put in Amsoil product code AMO, and the bottom end noise did not change. I believe it's in cylinder 2. Happy to send pics or arrange a test drive. I'm 90 minutes or so from Hickory, so if you're coming in for the Volvo show in September, I can even trailer the car to Hickory, no charge. I'm planning to be there. Or if you're going on the Tail of the Dragon run, you'll pass just a few minutes from my house. (The 780 was a blast on the Tail of the Dragon with the VCOA Blue Ridge Chapter 2021 fall color tour.) Really hate to sell it. But I can't deal with it. |
