NOTE |
A friend bought a 240, running and driving, per PO "For a year or so the oil-pressure light would flicker at hot idle and there was little splashing if you opened the oil-filler with the engine running". We notice a slight rattle at hot idle.
The mass was small bits of vegetable matter eg. straw/grass.
I'm not sure how this much dirt would get into an engine. Perhaps it sat without an oil-filler cap or valve cover.

NOTE |
Put a 240 motor into a 940. Hadn't seen a 940 flex plate but heard it was different from the 89-up 240 flex plates.
940 plate at top; 240 plate below. markings are basically the same ie. there's an arrow on the back (engine-block side) that lines up with the CPS.
The 940 plate also had the 2 pins (on the engine-block side) in the same position as the 240 pins. They are not marked with cutouts on the 940 as they are on the 240. |

NOTE |
A friend's son's 240 "banged and started making a popping noise." He drove it home a few miles.
The spark-plug has split at the seam leaving the threaded piece in the head and the upper piece dangling from the plug wire.
Removal of the threaded piece from the head with an easyout was not difficult as it wasn't tight.
Factory defect or Perhaps the loose plug was loose enough that it moved each time it fired? |

I've unscrewed and removed the four Kroil-soaked 13-mm nuts and their two u-clamps, and slid the tailpipe to port (to the right in this image as I look aft) only an inch or two, till it kisses an interior panel — as you should see in this picture — abaft the wheel well that obstructs any further movement, without exposing the end of the muffler's outlet. |

When your (ABS) caliper is so rusted that you break the casting trying to remove the pin.
Oddly (sadly), all 4 of the pistons work smoothly. |

NOTE |
Underbody of a 240 after it sits in our barn for a few months. Rodents (squirrel, rat, ...?) crave the minerals? And/or use it for nesting; or some kind of dark forest ritual ...? |
