Well? Has "Opinions" finally died? I've been here 15 years and these are sad times. Merry Christmas anyway. Regards.

I just got your note. Hope to hear soon.

We are out here. We probably should talk about things other than politics. That might help. :)

But not guns I presume ;-)

As I said before, Jarrod allowed the Opinions to die. We used to get emails when someone responded to our post, it kept the discussion lively. Those email notifications no longer work or take weeks to get to my inbox. By then, the discussion is no longer relevant or completely forgotten.

As I said before, Jarrod allowed the Opinions to die
Did he actually say this? Just wondering.
It is, I believe, still possible to donate money. I don't know if anyone does. I think advertising is the only thing keeping this site alive.
https://www.brickboard.com/contribute.shtml
EDIT: Okay...that link does not work...but if one goes to the pull down menu at the top of this page and selects About this site there is another link to a page with info on contributions. Although I am wondering if this info is still valid.
If we helped financially maybe we would be in a better position to make certain requests, like fixing the email notification.

I wouldn't be harsh on Jarrod, this board was here before the prepacked boards hit the internet and I doubt he makes anything much running it. If I were in the US, I'd post my old PC's to him to make a bigger cluster.
FYI, the email is slow for all forums, not just opinions.

Maybe all forums die eventually. However, I do have a response.......

The death of the opinions section is the same as Hillary Clinton's 2 failed presidential campaigns. When you surround yourself with nothing but like minded people who kiss your @$$ no matter what you become delusional to the real world. This forum has only liberal minded people and anyone with an opposing view is regarded as uneducated idiots.
This section will never be resurrected from the dead without fresh blood who have different points of view. That is if you guys don't chase them away first, LOL.

As someone who routinely is involved in traditional 'conservative' things, such as gun onwership, this is just silly. I know you are capable of far more.
The reality is, as Stoney has mentioned, many of us have moved on to different manufacturers with with death of the traditional Volvos. If we aren't seeing constructive conversations about say, the auto-industry, then we might not feel inclined to comment. I have certainly come back looking for other members, out of concern, but also out of real interest in how they are doing.
Frankly, I am glad to see you are around, and sounds like you are doing OK. I am also very happy to have conversations with you, and truly debate the merits of our public choices, or polices, if you are willing to keep to the matter at hand. So, let's not start anything with labeling, such as you libs, or libtard. I won't say something like republicon.
The result might mean we find LOTS of common ground, and we just might work towards good policies.

Hillary won two elections with Bill, she's just not going to win in her own right while America is crawling with misogynistic idiots.
This forum has only liberal minded people and anyone with an opposing view is regarded as uneducated idiots.
Untrue, this board is divided between pro-facts, pro-science types vs make it up as you go, or as you would phrase it, 'pull it out of your ass' types.
Since it's obvious that you never left and were just lurking like mould in the corner of the bathroom, have you actually got anything to say, or is this just a gloat and go post?

Funny. I sometimes look at the UK Volvo forum Opinions Section (called "The Lounge") and it's the opposite of what you're saying this place is i.e. it's a right wing club. Pro Conservative and pro Brexit. I'm neither so I don't participate anymore. Maybe I've answered my own question.
I always liked it here, liked the banter, the eloquence, far more intellectual than the UK forum. I often felt inferior in intellect but wanted to take part anyway. I seemed to become the token Brit but maybe I like that. I'll keep visiting to see if anyone is home.
Regards.

As one of the original 25 people who transitioned from Volvophalia to The Brickboard, and the guy who wrote a check to Jarrod to help finance/defray the costs of registering and setting up the Brickboard...
Like many I have matured/moved on...nothing Volvo makes interested me anymore and the dearth of "informed" communication on the forum has made me rarely stop by here...

Glad to see you folks around. Personally I had to abandon Volvo as the 'P2' models became the value priced option. I stopped lurking as my garage changed to Volkswagen, and now "vintage" Subaru. I remember old voices and old friends no longer with us. Opinions was always a good place to sip morning coffee and listen and think and learn. The uncivilized debate goes back to the days of Kermit and Tom...and dear Cynthia whom I could not stay long enough to help. Thanks to those who did...
Did we lose that common-bond respect when the cars became as fractured as the politics? There was a healthy anti-FWD sentiment also Ford hate. but now there are seven generation of Volvo production and at least 4 variations of our two party political system. I am ashamed of my naivete, as I have aged.
I will be back, hopefully soon as I add a classic wagon and a new V60xc to the fleet. 2016 felt like a return to pre-Ford asthetic my wish is to talk with old and new again. My respect and good wishes for all of you in 2018

"Like many I have matured/moved on...nothing Volvo makes interested me anymore"
Think that just about nails it for a lot of us.
I am getting older and rapidly losing interest in turning wrenches and trying to keep old, rusty Volvos going....

Bill,
It seems that the BB in general is dying, not just the Opinions forum. Participation is way down in the technical forums too, especially the RWD forum which once was very active. As someone mentioned, I believe a lot of the old guard has moved on...
Happy New Year!

Hey Bill, did you see much of Cook's innings? He must be one of the fitest people on the planet.
Get anything interesting for X-mas? I got a cheap pair of Chinese 48DCO Webers, I'm going for a trip in time to the past.

I don't have free TV access to cricket anymore so just hear snippets on the radio although I'm only partially interested. Well we've lost the series now so well done the Aussies!
Not car related Christmas stuff, but they got me a book on "The grumpy old git's guide to life" - it's come to that!
Regards and Happy New Year.

Cook's unbeaten 244 was great to watch, it also meant he spent the entire 5 days playing in the field, truely a mean feat of endurance. It's getting near impossible for teams to win on foreign soil because the pitches are getting more different so the home ground advantage is increasing.
The old WACA ground had it's last big game, countless batsmen have been scared witless there with 90+ MPH balls flying past their heads. Shame to see it replaced with a drop in pitch.

But I never had much to say that was worthwhile.
There was a time when the election of Trump and the campaign leading up to it would have spawned hundreds of posts.
Same for Roy Moore but almost no one replied to B20Paul's post on the subject.
Same for your Automatic weapons post.
Now, the neophytes that wander in here looking for repair advice outnumber the old guard.

After NOTHING changed in the aftermarth of Sandy Hook, it became fairly pointless posting anything about guns in the USA. I think terrorism comes 3rd after kids getting shot by mental patients and mental cops shooting innocent people.
