To those reading this, I hope you and all of your friends are well. China has endured the first wave of the disease, let's hope there isn't a second. Italy, Spain, are in the midst of a great battle with many casualties.
The USA is just now starting to realize this could be a problem here. The super rich will survive. no worries. But I am concerned with the Brickboard population. Keeping our cars running is noble and fun. But the cars could be used to deliver supplies to nearby neighborhoods. Many of us will no longer be employed for the duration, which could last 6-9 months.
I won't be going anywhere as my immune system is very much below par. If someone needs a station wagon to deliver goods in the MN area, just let me know. The 855T has a lot of life left in her.

250,000 Covid-19 dead in the USA by Christmas is my SWAG. You are going to have to wait ALONG time for the 2nd wave because the 1st wave has no end in sight.

Americans aren’t taking the need for social distancing and masks seriously enough. See it all the time! The virus is usually passed through small air droplets. Think you may be right but strongly hope you’re wrong!!

Thanks for the offer Jarrod. I wrote that piece while in a state of depression, I am slightly better now. The reason for the depression is the realization that Covid-19 will infect 60-80% of the population, regardless of government inaction. My only hope is that the longer I stay 'well', the better the treatment will be. I don't anticipate a 'cure' or vaccination in the next 6 months, but a better understanding by the clinicians of how to mitigate the disease once hospitalized.
I have Myelodysplastic syndrome(MDS) which means my bone marrow has a problem in producing blood components. My platelet count is hovering just above the point where I would need infusion on a twice a week schedule. As it is, I get a blood test every 2-3 weeks.
MDS also means a low red and white cell count. The lower red cell count keeps me short of breath and tired. The low white cell count means that I don't fight infections very well. Just over a year ago, I developed stasis from a bladder infection. 10 days in ICU, and I don't want to do that ever again!!
If you know someone who needs a station wagon for delivering supplies, I would be happy to volunteer the car. I could be the driver, but could not handle the items.
I was waiting for Spring to replace the front rotors and calipers.

Some of this stuff I'm hearing about the inevitable "temporary" tyranny (Patriot Act for the Internet) will make it impossible for me to run this site.
This post itself would be a problem. Alternative points of view will be crushed. The herd will speak as they are meant to speak.
Oh well. I saw it coming 11 years ago when the banks were bailed out and the media began the dialog about the dumb, reckless American people. Nothing I can do.
I have a bit of guilty pleasure knowing that the Boomer generation gets to see what they've sown before they depart. Note that I'm equally as disappointed with my generation- perhaps more actually. We should have known better. Of course I know most spend a lot of time trying to adjust the furniture on their delusions before they go (fake memories, self-serving remorse).
You wouldn't believe the stories I could tell about these "free love" hippies I called parents and their satanic friends. As I found a home in the middle class, I could see how the self-destruction was so deeply rooted there. They could afford to be smug about it, so it was more of slow burn than it was for working class people.
I hope everyone enjoys the new show that these devils have in store for us. Our second-in-a-row mentally challenged governor just instituted a Stasi-style hotline. Now the crazies, like those that you see on Next Door, will get to play their middle school mean girl, vengeful reject routine with attention from the authorities. It's for our own good.

Wow
You have some remarkable writing skills.
That part about the baby boomers hits close to home. I have heard some of "us" old hippies say " We tried to change the world" I always failed to see how smoking pot, drinking cheap wine, and listening to Led Zepplin would change the world.
I am an eternal pessimist. Who hopes to be proven wrong.
Have heard that 7 of 10 people reach retirement age broke. I think of that almost every day. It is a commentary on how most people think about money and the future.
Thanks for what you do.

I do not want to suggest in any way that this virus is to be taken lightly. It will result in the personal tragedy of loss of loved ones for many.
Fact is though, that the death toll in the USA or anywhere else has not reached the death rate of flu for last year. Please correct me if I am wrong.
I fear more, the economic, social, and governmental ramifications of it.
Millions of small business owners will have their life savings and lively hood destroyed. The second great depression will be worse than the first. Many of the people who feel lucky that they are working at home will see their jobs out sourced overseas after this crisis is over.
And like the "Patriot" act, the legislation resulting from this will erode a lot of personal liberties.
I suspect brickboarders are more self sufficient than the average person.
Look out for yourselves, and Jarrod, thank you for what you do.

You are wrong. You were in April when you posted this, and more wrong now.

Not much of a post there. " You were wrong"
About what?

Simply look at the post I was responding to. You know what you said.
"Fact is though, that the death toll in the USA or anywhere else has not reached the death rate of flu for last year. Please correct me if I am wrong."
You were wrong. Then. And now. And we knew then this was worse than the flu.

You're welcome.
The world is ruled by psychopaths and run by idiots.
The past 4 years we've seen the media teach nearly half the population to chant in unison with the death cult. I've said all along, as people celebrated the systematic destruction of what they believe are rival voices, that these are the tools of totalitarianism. Celebrate because it fits the idiotic "Orange Man Bad" obsession in what you believe is in your favor, but eventually those guns will be turned on you.
So many people consented to this that it seems the death cult feels we're ready to for the next phase of dehumanization.
If this is either a mistake or a hoax, who would be permitted to say so?
The important thing is to not be afraid and make sure this is known to those that enable evil. If you don't cling to the material world, you won't be afraid.
The consequences of acquiescence is greater than the consequences of defying this.
Virus or not, this taste of total control will have monstrous consequences.

I felt like the press took eight years off during the last administration. They either thought Obama was the messiah, or were afraid to criticize him. On November 16 2016, they awoke with a vengeance, and felt they had to protect the stupid American public from this re-incarnation of Adolf Hitler. They were wrong in both cases. He has good points and bad points just like the man he preceded, and the man who will follow him. It is apparent that most people are unable to be objective about politicians. ( Except perhaps those who dont vote )
As for the consequences of acquiescence, I really dont know what a person can do. I try to educate myself, but it seems to just further separate me from most people, and further degrades my opinion of the human race.

Re-reading some older posts and this on got me wondering. Just what are Trump's good points?
|
|

That's a very good question. Maybe that he will be aweful enough to burn the GOP to the ground so we can get some rational programs for our country back again???

My municipality, indeed the entire county, is now under a stay-at-home order. There are exceptions, of course. You can go to work. That is if you still have a job. You can shop for food or go to the pharmacy. You can go out for a walk. Just don't get within six feet of anyone you might encounter. These measures or similar are no doubt being effected throughout the country.
Since retiring in July of 2018 I have spent probably 90% of my time at home. So this so called 'social distancing' is not really a challenge. I'm already doing it.

So much has changed in the last couple weeks! Interesting, not surprising. I feel fortunate that I'm still drawing a paycheck. My job (in defense) has been deemed "essential". Seems silly.
I really don't want to be going to work, an office "campus" of around 3000 people, some of whom think this is "just a flu" and "if I get it, I get it". At least I was able to switch to a second shift, four to midnight, and those that I interact with do seem to be taking it seriously.
I'm thankful for online ordering and delivery of auto parts. I social distanced myself on Saturday spending the day adjusting all 24 valves on my Honda Odyssey. It was long overdue, exhausts were tiiiight! Focusing on that was a satisfying release from the stress and anxiety of this crisis.
What are y'all doing to cope?
Life partner shared this article about managing anxiety during this time: https://today.uconn.edu/2020/03/coping-covid-mastering-social-not-emotional-distancing/?utm_source=listserv&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=weekly&utm_content=uconn-today#
TLDR: find time to be mindful of your stress and feelings, acknowledge them, and take time to do whatever it is that provides calm in your life.
Stay safe out there,
Will
