SKANDIX has information you can use. Images and Volvo Part Numbers. Yet it appears all of these items are no longer available. Nothing specific to 240.

However, using the part number at the Volvo Parts Webstore (website) may reveal all parts comprising the spare gas can kit. Yet no go on the 140-164 can PN 1033769.

I'm unsure whether the Volvo spare gas can sold as accessory between 444 and 240 are the same form factory to safely reside in the spare wheel well either side of the boot for any model.
Also, this gas can may require restoration as it is rusty. And in Germany.
In CommonWealth English, these spare gas cans are also called Jerry Cans or jerrican. The term is also used in USA. More so in (Commonwealth nation member) Canada. I forget Commonwealth terms a lot now. Also called a petrol can.
Found another, yet I doubt this is what you seek. Different form factor!

This Volvo spare gas can may fit inside the spare wheel / tire where the spare wheel tire is turned such that the wheel void (interior side facing the hub) faced the boot interior. Dependent on the wheel diameter. 544-164 series may have used a 15" or 16" wheel. May not fit the 240 14" wheel.
