With real rain gutters, a Volvo 240 is easy to install a roof rack on, since aftermarket roof rack companies like Thule and Yakima have towers that clamp into the rain gutters (and the gutters let you adjust the distance between the bars to whatever you want within the length of the gutters).

As rain gutters used to be common but are no longer common, you may be able to find inexpensive or even free used rain gutter towers.
