I forgot about the radio suppression relay (RSR) in the car - thanks Aleekat/Spook. Linking your symptoms to the ECU findings, that small transistor could well be powering a relay. RSR maybe. Worth a check as recently mentioned by Art.
The transistor grounding the injectors is much bigger in size such as TO-220. Only one transistor is used as all 4 injectors fires simultaneously. Yet this just based on my experience with Bosch ECUs.
Luckily IME the RSR is not a troublesome part. It just sits there quietly doing its job. Once every few years I sanded flat its contacts and reuse.
