Actually, Chilton's is not bad as a reference guide, far less so as a shop manual. Get the Chilton's paperback used from an online used bookstore and then buy the Volvo OEM wiring diagram, an absolute must.

Actually there is a compendium on line for these models which is vastly superior to any shop manual in existence. The online reference and living document is unique in all automotive literature. Quite possibly the jewel of all enthusiast sites.

Its title is a bit misleading, as this covers the esoteric and arcane in depth well beyond the function of any "Frequently Asked Questions" list. Anything you don't find here is a welcome topic for the forum!

I have the Chiltons paper manual for my 240 and I never use it. The Bentley manual is enormously better. Chiltons manuals aren't what they used to be (or what I thought they used to be).

Whichever is cheaper; they're worth exactly nothing.
The green books may seem pricey, but you only really need a couple: wiring diagrams and specifications.
