Clutch Cable Replacement 1986 740 700 1986

My transmission has been getting very difficult to shift (especially into first or reverse) and the old clutch cable is adjusted as far as it will go. Figuring that the old cable was stretched too far, I bought a new cable ( a COFLE 093-0495 from Bap Geon) and replaced the cable... To my surprise, this cable would not adjust enough to get even as much tension as the old one. The COFLE cable is marked as a replacement for 240, 260, and 740 series -- is it possible that this is the wrong cable and that I should get a Volvo (Gemo?) cable from a Volvo dealer? On different parts sites I am seeing different part numbers for 240's than 740'S.

....Or is this symptomatic of some other problem?

Any input is appreciated. Thanks.

Jon G

Well, I just surfed a couple parts places, and they all show different part numbers for the 240/740 for your cable. Try FCPGroton, saw your cable for $28. Call them if you're unsure.

Thanks for taking the time to look up the cable ... I just checked the FCPGroton website and the clutch cable that they list(Cofle 6814279) is the same cable that I bought at Bap Geon.

When's the last time the fluid was changed?

I changed it last week, a few days before I changed the clutch cable.
