91 B230FT Swapped in to 83 245 200

Finished with the b230ft swap last night and managed to get it to the Cates Park Meet here in North Vancouver today.
Didn't do any major performance mods at this point or "pretty" work, just needed to get it in and running. And even stock, (ok, 2 degree advanced Cam and a 2 1/2 inch custom exhaust), this thing goes...I love it...the low end grunt and pull is amazing...I have a posi rear end with 3:53 gearing and it just mates so wonderfully with the new motor. Highway driving is absolutely a blast. With the old B23E I had to change gears so often, but with the b230ft no need to change gears, just drop the peddle and go...I am getting a tiny bit of pinging under full throttle when the revs start low, but I am also only running 89 octane, going to 91 tomorrow and hopefully that will clear that up.
Also going to install the calibrated boost gauge this week and the Manual boost controller so I can start tuning a little more power. Maybe this winter I will grab the IPD Turbo cam and see what difference it makes...

Really looking forward to playing with the new toy!

91 B230FT Swapped in to 83 245 200

Hi Phil. Fantastic work. I've been collecting info on this swap for a year, with an engine (non turbo) sitting in the garage. Basically I've been searching for info on the distributor, dist drive and ECU. Looks like you've got it all wrapped up! Any input would be appreciated.

hey phil, your ride is the best possible setup as far as i am concerned.
i would like to do this swap one day. i been reading up on another like this on turbobricks. i would also pick the 245, but maybe a 93 model.
the wiring is what would leave me dead in the water.
do you have any info on the wiring?
anyway a sweet ride for sure.
for now i will stay with my 85 240ti
also what rims are you riding on?
thanks

If you are refering to the Blue Volvo as the original? Then that car looked great on the outside, but the motor had 620,000kms on it and had developed some nasty piston slap, and the body had some nasty rust in the floor boards as well as some structure rust hiden under the rear seats...

But really, it's not sometimes about why...but rather...why not...this car is now close to my dream Volvo: Pretty, super reliable, and good and quick...and I can still haul stuff to the dump...

Looks great 200

Hello Phil,

The car looks great, did you ever figure out the uneven ride height situation?

That car looks great! Will you post details about swapping in the new motor, especially the wiring/computer/sensors? Did you use the 240 intercooler and hoses? The site with the pictures says the motor was rebuilt before installation. Did you do anything other than a standard rebuild?

Some of the swap details:

86 240 wiring harness - w Resitors added.
760 Turbo Computer
86 240 Ignitiion Box

The rest is from the 940 including the intercooler and hoses.

I need to update the site, we did not rebuild the B230FT, it was in great shape at only 200,000kms on it. (The rebuid was what happened to the B23E we originally had slatted for the car)

I didn't do the work myself as I am not that mechanically proficient yet...

I highly suggest you go for a B230FT ignition computer. Sure, it's more work... but the Chrysler brain has no provision for pulling back the timing under boost.

Looks great Phil, congrats on getting it up and running.
Shame those type of swaps arent easily done here in my part of Oz ( no turbo donor cars )
That's one hot looking wagon.
cheers
