Rear End Upgrade 200 1987

I need to know if anyone haw any information on upgrading the stock rear end on my 244, I have been told that a Dana 30 (popular on jeeps) will match up. I want to upgrade the rear end to around 4.88. Any information on houw I could achieve this would help, have a big race coming up in 3 weeks.

We had a 4.88 in the rear end of out ProRally car. Mostly to compensate for the Quaife close ratio gearset which put 1st up where 2nd used to be. Reider Racing provided the set and it is readily available Dana 30.

The carrier is a Dana 30. Problem is on the later more popular 1031 axle housing Volvo used their own larger ring and pinion gear. 7.75" vs 7.25". On the older 1030 axle standard Dana 30 R&P's can be used. The shortest R&P for a 1031 that I know of is from an 740 16V w/auto at 4.10.

The rear should be a Dana 30. You can swap to a 4.10 rear at any good 4x4 shop or DIY.

    4.88? Never seen one in a 240.

Balu Vandor ran a 4.10 rally car that would scoot like a cat with its ass on fire!
