Fuel-line quick disconnect at single in-tank pump -- can't disconnect 900 1995

I can't disconnect the pressure line from the pump cover on my 1995 940T, with the single pump. It has a barrel about an inch long that spins freely, but I can't push or pull it any distance. Should I be able to do this by hand or does it require a tool (that will not break the plastic)?

If it is like my 960, you push the "barrel" in toward the fitting and then the line should release.

I have pushed (and pulled) as hard as I can by hand. Should this be enough?

It should not take a lot of force. The trick is to hold the barrel against the fitting while you gently pull the line. Pushing the barrel against the fitting is actuating a release. You have to keep the barrel against the fitting while you pull the line out.

Maybe you have caused it to jamb from previous efforts? With the barrel depressed, try pushing on the line first to un-jamb it before you pull.
