Jack recommendations 900 1992

Hi folks
I am planning to get a 2-1/4 ton jack(33lbs) with 2-1/4ton jack stands from Sears. Would this be enough to work under my brick ? Since I dont have a garage I would have to haul away the jack up some stairs and then down some to my basement for storage. So the weight of the jack itself is of importance. Thats why I dont want to go with the 3 ton jack(54lbs). Any thoughts ?

Thanks

Look for Aluminum jack version in Sams club for a very good price.

Keep in mind too that the jack stands are designed for a very hard surface -- like concrete. When you set the weight of a car on them on blacktop, they sink down into it. It's a safety concern and a damage concern for your driveway.

The solution: put a couple 1 foot pieces of 2x6 under the jack stands. You'll be happy you did.

Well I live in a townhouse and parking is just in front of the house. So basically the surface is tar road.

Quote: "basically the surface is tar road."

The jack stands will push right through that surface -- especially in summer while it's hot. You just need something to spread out the load a little. As they're designed, all the weight is directly applied to the sharp corners. Even a piece of plywood will do the trick.

You're fine: I use the same. The whole car only weights 3300 pounds, so the front weighs around 2000 pounds or one ton. Just make sure the jack has the reach to be useful. And don't use the jack as the main support: always raise the car, then lower it onto the jackstands and use the lift jack as a backup only.
