Don't overtighten belts. You'll cause rapid wear of the waterpump and alt bearings.

The reason there are 2 belts is to provide more gripping area so the 2 belts can be less tight than if you were running with just one belt.

If the water pump is noisy, remove the belts and see if the fan/water pump shaft is wobbly. If yes then your water pump bearing is worn and the pump needs replacing. A seized up water pump will quickly result in an overheated engine and possible serious damage.

Alignment alterator belt question...(photo inside) 200

Thank you for your answer, thats why I post this message, my concern is the water pump pulley and the alternator are not aligned. Can you explain me why is this, or this is normal?

Thanks for any advice...

Edwin

Not normal. If both the pump and alt are level but the belts are angled, something's wrong. It appears alt is forward of pump.

Since you worked on the alt, check to see if something is bringing it forward. (I'd have to look at mine to see how it goes on.)

Did you change Bushing # 3 ? 200

Alternator has 3 bushings.
2 on alternator (at bottom), easy to see.
1 on tension adjustment mechanism.

If bushing #3 on tensioner is old, alternator will be crooked - bad alignment.

2 bottom bushings should be pushed into holder from middle part, pointing out.
That is, front bushing points forward (large-diameter "shoulder" is at center-rear).
Rear bushing points backward (large-diameter "shoulder" is at center-front of holder).

This holds alternator at center of bolt space so it does not move forward to radiator

Thanks, I replace all bushings. The alternator dont move forward is tight. Do you thin the problem is on the water pump pulley?

Edwin

Correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think the alternator on 960's have bushings.
