engine lope and stall - now no start 700

My 91 740 turbo all of a sudden, going slowly down the road, backfired sputtered then stalled. Would start, and it would sputter and stall. could get it to run, but it was erratic, and it would lope. Though it was bad gas, drained the tank, changed the fuel filter, used some additive, then it ran good for a short while, then did the same thing. Now it wont start. sounds like it wants to start, but doesnt. I am at a loss as to where to look now. Most of the trouble shooting tests require the vehicle to be running. Also, I pulled the injector rail, its injecting. Please help me!

    This sort of happened to me several times, eventually could get it to start for days. Eventually swapped my RSR, and Fan relay, it worked. However, before that, my RPM Sensor had to be replace, from fraying.

    Recently, had the no cranking problem. Verified my starter is good by shorting the Positive & Negative leads, while my key is in the running position (all lights on @ dash). Car has yet to fail from cranking & starting, since. This has verified my problem is at the ignition switch area. Actually, took it out to rebuild it, but that wont work.

    Hopefully, one of my solutions, may be yours also.

    Have you cleaned the throttle body and IAC?

      Yes, had spark, but it seems weak now. That was my first check. Now the batt is low, so I am not sure if that is the cause of the weak spark.

      How much gas is in the tank?
      I had the same thing happen to me on a 87 745 tic. Turned out to be the little rubber hose in the tank between the in-tank pump conecting to the fuel line. Mine had a hole and once the fuel droped below the line it would suck in air. leading to poor fuel pressure and it just wanted to catch but never did.

        After I drained it, I put 2.5 gals in it, and it started right up, but didnt go far before the problem started again.

          The time that it is running - is it running well - or like the timing is retarded excessively?
          That is what my 760t was doing and it was a bad distributor.
