water pump bearing faliure question 200

I own a 1990 240 dl, and was wondering if I have to replace the water pump to replace the bearing, or can the bearing be replaced by itself. thanks in advanced

water pump bearing faliure question 200

You know I have taken apart a few water pumps back in the day just for shits and giggles and I would have to say sure you can just put a bearing in it, but why? You would need to find a source for the bearing and seal and then you would need a press and a few dedicated tools to press it apart and back together. Sure sounds like a lot of time and aggravation and for what? It really can't be a cost savings once you figure in your time and tools. Full hit list on a factory pump is in the area of $90.00 and you can get a German Hepu pump that is a decent pump for considerably cheaper.

Thanks for the advice, one more thing, what do you think of the online volvo stores like: The Parts Bin, and IPD, or others. hepu water pumps are 60$, are the parts less quality?

I use FCP Groton and Eeuroparts online. I have had good luck both with those online outfits and with Hepu pumps.
