vacuum side of FPR 700 1985

1985 740 GLE manual trans m-46 od

i have signigcant loss of power and chugging underload and idle is around 1000 rpm.

I have read about fuel smell on vacuum side of FPR and am wondering if the thin hose towards the front of the car at the fuel rail is the vacumm side.
When I take off the thin hose on the FPR ...idle surges. Is that good?

Also what troubleshooting meathods would you recommend? I checked to make sure all ignition wires were on tight and will pull the plugs and have a look see.

I pulled off the AMM connection ( ingnition off) and started car. it still idled although not well.

I took off the hose from IAC valve towards the air intake and car died. Is that good?

I've screwed in and out the mixture screw Black round plastic thing and didn't notice to much of a difference.

Please help

Not looking to throw wads of cash at this.

Yes.

Normal

Unless you grounded out the wire at the passenger's side fender nothing will happen moving the idle screw. That's in the FAQs also.

Kat

I've done that (the FAQ's) and am still a little confused. hoping I can get the laymans straight and forward response.

I first boned up on the parts before playing ......I'm not much with a multimeter but have a digital one.

Mark

MarkyMark...is that still Mark Wahlberg's musical group? Does the level of fuel in the tank affect the loss of power? I'm wondering if your intank prepump or hose could be bad. It sounds more like it could be ignition related though. As another poster said: have you checked/replaced wires, rotor, cap, and plugs? FCP Groton has OE stuff for reasonable prices.

Good luck with it.
Dave
